How Older Items Will Hold Value in 2026

Opening Message:

Hi folks! I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the spring weather. That rainstorm back on March 16 really announced the season—it was the perfect reminder to stock up on water-resistant spray. Working at the store Finish Line at Macy’s, it was definitely a hot topic. Anyway, in this blog, I want to explore the value of older technology and items in a world that has rapidly shifted toward smart tech since the late 2000s. These are my personal opinions, and I appreciate you keeping that in mind as you read. Thank you so much for your support—I hope you enjoy this post!

Music Players:

In a world dominated by smartphones and apps like Spotify and YouTube, owning a dedicated music player can still be a smart move. Music players allow you to truly own your media without worrying about content being removed from streaming platforms. They’re also portable, conserve your phone’s battery, and help reduce distractions. I experienced this firsthand during the week of March 18, when my phone struggled to load YouTube, making it difficult to study languages. Thankfully, my MP3 player handled everything smoothly, allowing me to stay focused. Another major benefit is fewer notifications, which can significantly improve concentration. If you’re looking to stay productive and minimize distractions, this older tech still holds strong value today. Read more here: https://fotaquest.wixsite.com/lgjinsei/post/music-players

Cameras:

While smartphone cameras are incredibly convenient, dedicated cameras still have a clear edge in quality. Whether it’s capturing detailed shots of the moon or recording high-quality audio and video, traditional cameras deliver results that phones often can’t match. For example, I recently recorded my dad’s concert, and the audio and visual quality were outstanding. I’ve also taken close-up photos of flowers with raindrops that came out crystal clear—something that’s difficult for most smartphones to replicate consistently. Dedicated cameras remain a valuable tool for anyone serious about photography or videography.Read more here: https://fotaquest.wixsite.com/lgjinsei/post/cameras

Physical Credit and Debit Cards:

Although digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Wallet are becoming more popular, physical credit and debit cards are still essential. Not all stores and restaurants accept virtual payments, and even when they do, technical issues can occur. I’ve seen situations where digital payments failed to process, while physical cards worked without any problems—even in places that typically accept mobile payments. The best approach is to have both options available rather than relying on just one.

Used Furniture from Before the 2000s:

Furniture made before the 2000s often reflects a level of craftsmanship and durability that’s harder to find today. Many older pieces were built to last for decades, even generations. I remember my grandmother telling stories about a chair she owned since childhood—one that lasted nearly a century. I even used to sit in that same chair. Today, I still use a desk from my dad’s childhood, and it continues to hold up well. These items aren’t just functional—they carry history and long-term value.

Older Video Games:

While modern games have advanced in many ways, older video games still offer unique strengths. In some cases, newer releases—especially within franchises like Pokémon—have faced criticism for graphics, bugs, or lack of creativity. Older games often featured more challenging puzzles and gameplay that required deeper thinking. While newer titles are more accessible, many players appreciate the complexity and originality of older versions. For some, these classics still provide a more rewarding experience.
