Understanding Why Libraries Matter in Modern Society:

Opening message: Hi Folks! I hope you all are doing well! This blog is going to cover what my thoughts are on libraries in general. I hope at the end of this blog you will support libraries and see their importance and will continue to not mind paying your taxes in order to keep and maintain them. Without further ado, enjoy!

What is a library?: A library tends to be a public location that lends people books, movies, DVDs, etc for free that has a place for people to study in peace whether it be for school and/or other types of academics. It is usually funded by taxes paid by our tax payers. That is true if the library is a public library.

Wix took this photo.

Audience: Everyone besides babies, especially students for academics and anyone who likes reading and/or education. I think middle school students will be benefiting the most since they do not have as many means to go places since they cannot drive and do not have as much freedom as other people.

Pros: It has museum passes/discounted ticket prices. Books are free eBooks or physical books, DVDs, CDs, etc. It has places for quiet study and reading. It has sections for everyone- children, teens, adults, etc. It is quiet. It has lots of options, lots of cheap used books, lots of free apps and activities. It is also important to note that library cards are generally free.

Cons: While there are a lot of benefits to libraries, it do have their downsides. It doesn't have all books. It isn't accommodating for projects that have a sound base.  Certain things have a paywall such as printing. There are not enough study rooms at least that is true with the Bedford Public Library. Children's section is noisy which is supposed to be the case. However, with some soundproof walls and/or acoustic boards that problem will be eliminated. It has a 2 week limit to rent the book before renewal at least with the Bedford Public Library.

Are they important?: Yes. It is important for students, especially middle school kids who depend on the space for hanging out and studying. It is important for quiet study. You can access free books for people who can't otherwise afford it.

Do I use the library? If so, what for?: Yes, I have been using the library. I find it to be important because of having a quiet environment that is meant for studying, reading, and so forth. I've been using it for my Japanese studies. When I was a student, I did homework used the computer lab and desks for studying and writing papers. I did a lot of writing, reading, researching, and studying as a student and as an adult who is no longer a student.

Would I like our taxes to continue supporting them? Why: Yes. It is the only place free of charge that supports studying and free physical media.

What can libraries improve on?: It often does have requirements for being extremely quiet even in study rooms, perhaps with acoustic boards. Libraries definitely need to have more study rooms, there are a lot of students who come after school to study and it is very difficult to find a study room. It definitely needs to have more advanced language books. A lot of them only cover the basics, but nothing more than that. While it is great that you can get passes for free, the passes themselves do not allow free entry to that location. It allows you to get an entry at that location at a discounted price. It should let you get into all of the places free of charge.

Closing message: I hope you all enjoyed the blog and that you will see the importance of having a library. I look forward to seeing you all in the next one! Have a wonderful day!
