Opening Message
Hi, folks! I hope you are all doing well! This blog is about scavenger hunt scrapbook ideas, materials, and how-to tutorials. Disclaimer: These are just my opinions and suggestions, not a rigid structure that everyone has to follow. Different formats might work better for different people. I hope you enjoy this article!

Origin
I came up with the scrapbook idea through one of my friends at Barnes & Noble. I liked the idea of combining it with my scavenger hunts because I enjoy collecting stickers and stamps in my Build-A-Bear passport. Creating a scrapbook could be an even greater extension of that hobby!
I originally got the idea of doing scavenger hunts thanks to a YouTuber who used smart Pokédexes to find rare Pokémon merchandise and Pokémon featured on products, with bonus points and rounds added to the challenge.
Between these two inspirations, I came up with the idea of building a scrapbook through interactions with companies, people, employees, and more. I wanted to make it unique rather than filling it with lots of magazine clippings. The best part of a scrapbook is that you can make it however you want! I chose to build mine around people and businesses instead of relying entirely on magazine clippings.
Audience
This idea is for anyone who is old enough to walk around independently if they want to make things easier, as well as people who can safely travel around the areas they choose to explore. It is also suitable for people on a budget, like me, but it can work for those who are willing to spend more money if they want to make their scrapbooks more elaborate.
You can also choose between single-player and multiplayer modes. Whether you want to do this alone, work with a team, or simply have a lot of fun, there are plenty of possibilities!
Materials
Here are some materials I recommend bringing:
A blank sketchbook, either spiral-bound or non-spiral-bound.
Writing utensils, such as pens and pencils.
A backpack to hold your materials.
A snack if you plan to do this for a long time.
A camera or phone camera.
Tape if you are collecting free things for your scrapbook
Step 1: Find a Destination for Your Scavenger Hunt
First, find a destination where you want to do your scavenger hunt. I recommend looking for a mall or a city or town that offers opportunities to collect stickers or stamps.
Choosing a place where you can legally collect stickers, stamps, paper products, and other items is a great way to build your scrapbook while saving money.
Keep in mind that some people will be very enthusiastic about helping you, while others might not be as interested. I also recommend making your scavenger hunt scrapbook interactive by talking with employees when they are available and willing to participate. It can make the experience much more exciting!
Step 2: Decide What You Want to Collect or Photograph
Next, figure out what you want to collect or photograph for your scavenger hunt scrapbook. I also recommend coming up with bonus objectives to earn extra points if you want to make the experience more challenging.
I usually look for stickers, stamps, paper products, business cards, and similar items. Collecting these things can also bring back great memories of each scavenger hunt!
Another idea is to let people draw pictures or write quotes in your scrapbook. Just make sure the content is appropriate for your intended audience. If you plan to show your scrapbook to children or people at your workplace, keeping the content PG is a good idea. You do not want something inappropriate in your scrapbook to get you fired!
Step 3: Figure Out Your Goal
Now, think about what you want to accomplish with your scavenger hunt scrapbook.
Do you want to play in single-player or multiplayer mode? Would you prefer a team collaboration project or an individual activity? Do you want to take pictures of all the items you find, the destinations you visit, or both? There is no single right answer. It all depends on what you want to get out of the experience!
Step 4: Pack Your Materials and Start Hunting!
Once you have chosen your destination and decided what you want to collect, pack all your necessary materials and head out to begin your scavenger hunt.
Most importantly, do not forget to have a lot of fun!
Also, remember to get people's consent before taking photos or videos of them or recording their voices. Make sure their participation is voluntary. Pressuring someone into agreeing does not count as genuine consent.
Step 5: Create Badges or Use Stamps to Celebrate Your Progress
Once you complete a scavenger hunt, consider creating a badge or using a stamp to mark your achievement. You can also create special badges or stamps for bonus rounds if you decide to include them.
I chose to get postal stamps at my local post office because I wanted to continue supporting it as best I could. If you are skilled at sewing, making your own badges could be a fun project! Unfortunately, sewing is not one of my skills at all.
My Sample Scavenger Hunt
For my most recent scavenger hunt, I chose the Natick Mall as my destination and went there with a friend. I decided to play in single-player mode, while my friend drove me there and we both enjoyed shopping.
My goal was to collect free items legally, including stickers, stamps, paper products, business cards, and more.
I visited several stores, including Lush, Build-A-Bear, and the LEGO Store. The employees at these stores were happy to help me with free paper products, stamps, stickers, and drawings. There were other stores I visited, but these three really stood out to me.
Learning Express also provided me with drawings, wrapping paper scraps, and other materials. Thanks to all these businesses, I was able to fill several pages of my scavenger hunt scrapbook!
I also chose to add commentary and expressions of gratitude to some of the pages. I made sure to thank the employees in person and show my appreciation in the scrapbook as well. I was also careful to get their consent before including their contributions.
This experience showed me how a scavenger hunt can become more than just a search for items. It can also be a way to interact with people, discover businesses, collect memories, and create something personal!
