The Significance of Writing Letters in Today's Digital Age:

Opening message: Hi Folks! I hope you enjoy this blog post on the importance of writing letters! It covers why it is important, lessons you learn, why it is dying, what do I like about writing letters, topics you can choose (there are more than what I mentioned as a side note), whether thank you notes are important, and what I do with my letters. With that said, I hope this inspires you to write a letter and keep the postal services in business.

The Importance of Letters and Lessons: While it is true that you can get instant messages in a blink of an eye such as emails, texts, and the use of social media apps all do the same thing, it is not the same as getting a heartfelt letter from someone you care about. It is good to learn patience and not get everything instantly. It is good to have the ability to enjoy opening something physical and use your own two hands to open that note. It is also good to support the post office as well.
Why are letter writing dying?: Letter writing is dying because we have so many ways to get our messages instantly. Stamps still cost money while sending emails, texts, and other electronic messages are usually free of charge. People tend to be less patient and want to have instant gratification. This does not help our patience levels.
What do I like to do with Letters: Letters sent through the post office get saved in a box where I can always look at them later for fond memories and maybe just a reminder of all of the good times and remembering how much people care about you and vice-versa. I like to send letters back as well for the same reasons as mentioned in the first section. I like keeping people updated about my life and having letter exchanges are great to teach people patience and being happy to receive something besides junk mail and to really work out delayed gratification. It is fun to make them and customize them. It is a lot of fun hearing from others.
Topics you can choose from: There are a lot of topics you can choose from include how you are, what you have been up to, your adventures, school/work, your hobbies, news that you heard about for the better or worse, common interest topics, exciting events, what you are looking forward to, your family, special moments you had, vacations, and so on. Those are some ideas. Obviously it could be none of those topics but those are usable for sure.
Thank you notes - Are they important?: I think thank you notes are something that should be written and sent by snail mail. When done right, it shows gratitude for what that person had done whether it be a service and/or product they provided to you. It shows that you care about the other person and that it is well thought out. Growing up, starting from my childhood, I was always taught to write a thank you note whenever I received a gift from someone. To this day, I still make a point of writing out notes whenever this happens even if I said thank you in person. It is ingrained in me and I think this should be taught and encouraged to current and future generations to express gratitude. When writing thank you notes, it shows that you appreciate their gift that they gave to you. A message could be “Thank you so much for _____! It was very thoughtful of you! I appreciate it a lot!”. Of course you can expand upon it when you say what this will be used for and how you will use it. I encourage you all to continue to send handwritten thank you notes when possible to express your appreciation towards a gift.
What do you learn about letter writing?: I suppose this is true without writing letters, but your writing will improve. The sense of patience will also help and putting quite a bit more thought into what you tell the other people will also be important as well. It gives you time and space to really be focused on what you are doing especially if you use real pencil and paper. Pen works as well.
End Message: I hope you write letters through snail mail and that the tradition does not die out because I think it is important to do. While it is not everyone’s cup of tea and I am in the minority when it comes to sending snail mail, I hope this lives on and that the future generations keep up with letter writing.
