Opening Message
Happy Asian Lunar New Year! Today marks the start of the Lunar New Year, and I wanted to share a special, yet brief, reflection on my experiences with Chinese New Year—how my celebrations have evolved from childhood to adulthood. It is the year of the snake for the Asian Lunar New Year. I hope you enjoy reading!

This picture was taken by me. It is supposed to show the lanterns which is very traditional in Asian culture especially in Chinese culture.
Childhood Memories
Growing up as a Chinese American, I was immersed in cultural traditions. Adults taught us about the significance of the holiday, while we, as kids, eagerly awaited the red envelopes symbolizing prosperity. These envelopes, filled with money, were meant to be saved for the future, though as a child, I often debated between saving and spending!
My family and I attended Chinese New Year parties filled with delicious food and lively gatherings with other Chinese adoptees. At home, we decorated our space and dressed in festive attire, often wearing red for good luck. One of my fondest memories is wearing a traditional Chinese outfit, feeling a deep connection to my heritage through the vibrant celebrations.

Adulthood Reflections
As I grew older, some traditions naturally faded. We no longer attended large parties, and the red envelopes, traditionally given to children, became a thing of the past. However, we still honor the occasion by setting up lanterns and enjoying Chinese cuisine.
These days, my celebrations are more subdued. I often find myself remembering it’s Lunar New Year only when others bring it up. That said, I still make an effort to wish my Asian family members, friends, and acquaintances a “Happy Asian Lunar New Year!”
This year, I added a fun personal touch by doing a festive photo shoot with stuffed animals holding red envelopes, sharing the joy online. It was a simple yet meaningful way to celebrate, and I enjoyed spreading positivity through social media.
Closing Thoughts
Lunar New Year traditions change as we grow, adapting to different stages of life. As a Chinese American, I naturally say “Happy Chinese New Year,” but I also recognize and respect that this holiday is significant to many other Asian cultures as well. So, to all my friends, family, and readers—Happy Asian Lunar New Year! Wishing you prosperity, happiness, and a wonderful year ahead!
