The Role of Movie Theaters in Enhancing Film Experiences:

By Lars Guo

Opening message: Hi Folks! Welcome to the movie blog. I have been dying to do a blog on movies but didn't know what to say which is why it took me so long to make it. All opinions are my own. Feel free to disagree with me but please do be respectful. It is okay to have your own opinions. Without further ado, please enjoy.

What is a movie?: A movie is a story that lasts longer than a TV episode and is roughly between 1 and a half hours and 2 and a half hours. The usual trope with movies is there is a story, a problem, and a solution.

Movie Theaters: A movie theater is a place where you can watch a movie on a huge screen with big speakers. You can buy popcorn, candy, and drinks. Those are overpriced. The novelty of movie theater  popcorn always gets me to buy popcorn. It is so good yet so bad for you in terms of your health. It smells amazing. It is a great way to get together and have something to do together.

Why are movie theaters less popular: It is less popular because of the pandemic, streaming services, and overpriced products. People do not like to sit close to each other because of germs. Streaming your movie and having homemade/store bought popcorn and/or goods are a lot cheaper than going to a movie theater. The entry fee to get in isn't bad. It is the food and drinks that cause the prices of movie theaters to go up.

The Importance of movies: It's great to have an activity to do that is relaxing that is longer than a TV show and more forgivable when it comes to being able to stop except while watching it in theater and with live plays.

Problems with many movies regarding women: The women end up being side characters who are either nothing more than love interests or are not as strong as their male counterparts. Of course this has improved with movies like the Hunger Games. This is still an issue with Japanese movies/books.

Favorite movies: Harry Potter series, Hunger Games series, and Kuroko’s Basketball Last Game are my favorite movies. Harry Potter has a lot of nostalgic reasons. Hunger Games series is the perfect movie for anthropology majors because of the mental illnesses and how, as someone on the internet says, it portrays the past, present, and future of the human race. The story is also interesting. For Kuroko’s Basketball movie, it has my favorite character Akashi Seijuro and all of the seasons’ antagonists work together to defeat a team that is strong and has a nasty attitude towards Japanese basketball. That is saying it lightly.

Most unique movies: I guess "Avatar" is one of the most unique movies because it was the first 3d movie I think. I think The "Last Airbender" movie was so terrible that it was unique when it came to incorrectly voicing the main characters’ names and butchering the names of the characters. "Detective Pikachu" was interesting yet lighthearted as it is the first movie that was 3d for Pokemon. I honestly can't think of anything else that stood out. Please let me know if there are movies you think are unique that I haven't mentioned.

Thoughts on romance in movies: I just think they are boring, annoying, overdone, and overrated.

Favorite horror movie: The "Orphanage" which is a movie that has English translation to Spanish. It is creepy without being too much. It is rated R.

Fun Facts about my movie experience:

  • I manage to sleep through the best parts of "Detective Pikachu" and the marvel heroes, which have all of the male protagonists and a couple of female ones thrown in. I have no idea why I slept through parts of the movie since everything was interesting.

  • I absolutely cannot sit through movies without doing something like eating popcorn. This was especially true during childhood and my young 20s. It is less true now.

  • The latest marvel movie full of female characters made me itch to draw stuff during the movie.

  • Watching clips of the Hunger Games made me really want to watch the Hunger Games prequel which I enjoyed a lot.

  • The Hunger Games prequel was the only movie that I watched in theaters in 2023.

End Message: I hope you enjoyed this blog. Please let me know your opinions about movies and what you would do differently politely in the contact form Thank you. Have a great day!
